Continuing Education Accreditation
The American Society of Health-System Pharmacists is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education as a provider of continuing pharmacy education. The program provides 2.0 hours (0.2 CEUs) of continuing education credit (program number 204-000-08-410-H04P).
Methods/Format
This is an online activity consisting of audio, presentation slides, post-test, and activity evaluation tool. Participants must view the entire presentation, take the activity post-test, and complete the course evaluation to receive continuing education credit. A minimum score of 70% is required on the test for credit to be awarded, and participants may print their official statements of continuing education credit immediately. The estimated time required to complete this activity is two hours. This activity is provided free of charge.
Target Audience
This continuing education program was planned to meet the needs of pharmacists who are interested in learning about quality improvement.
Activity Content
As the national quality agenda sweeps the nation, pharmacists are becoming involved with medication-based national quality initiatives and incorporating evidence-based guidelines into practice. This educational activity will provide an introduction to basic quality improvement terminology and concepts, as well as some of the organizations involved in national quality improvement initiatives.
Learning Objectives
After participating in this educational activity, participants should be able to
- Discuss two basic principles of quality improvement and apply to pharmacy practice.
- Describe the benefits of continuous quality improvement (CQI).
- List three key national organizations with medication-related national quality improvement initiatives and describe the initiative.
- Describe the progression of quality improvement efforts across the health care continuum.
- Identify areas of pharmacy practice likely to be affected by quality improvement efforts.
- Utilize key elements of CQI theory to develop plans for the implementation of high-quality care modules.
